Tournament organizations gave our South Carolina lakes a break over the holiday weekend, but on Thursday and Friday two University of South Carolina anglers had a sensational showing in the Collegiate Bass Fishing Championship on Lake Pickwick in Florence, Alabama. Lucas Bowers and Fisher Rodgers weighed 19.12 the first day to move into tenth place, but on the strength of 24.62 pounds on day 2 finished in second with 43.74 pounds. Twin brothers and University of North Alabama anglers Dylan and Carter Nutt won the event with a two-day total of 52.36 pounds, but their day 2 weight of 24.56 was less than Bowers and Rodgers' second day weight. Of course, the locals ran away with it on the strength of an awesome 27.80 pound bag on day 1 - including the big bass of the day weighing in at 7.87.
Congratulations Lucas and Fisher - and to our regular Lake Wateree correspondent and proud father Dearal Rodgers!
