These aren't the biggest striped bass you will see come out of Santee, and limits are more restrictive than on other lakes, but the bite has been really good recently. And after such concern about the state of the fishery just a few years ago it's worth highlighting the improvement. Captain Bobby Winters with Bob’s Guide Service Encore (843-751-3080) reports that striped bass can be caught in a lot of different places in the lakes right now, but he is finding the hottest bite in the canal and concentrating all his time and energy there. These keepers (and a bunch more that they released) came on live herring on a mix of free-lines and down-rods. Captain Bobby adds that the best bite of the year may be just around the corner when migratory bait gets really stacked up at the Moultrie dam, so stay posted!
