While not as rare as they once were in South Carolina, migratory tripletail are still relatively uncommon even in the warm months. But Captain Rob Bennett with Lowcountry Inshore Charters (843-367-3777) put his clients on a beauty fishing to the south of Charleston, deciding to run some crab pot buoys in the afternoon since he was seeing 88 degree water temperatures (and they like to float beside them in the heat). This fish was on its side in 40 feet of water and looked almost like a towel floating in the water, but when he cast a live shrimp six inches under a bobber towards it the "towel" came to life. After a fight his client had a delicous trophy. We're not sure if this fish got eaten, but tripletail are as fine as any inshore fare in the ocean.
