Top weights on Day 1 of the Bassmaster Open on Santee Thursday were about what you would expect, and Mark Hutson of Moncks Corner managed 30-6 to take the lead. Anchored by a 10-3 beast.
The entire top ten fielded bags over 25 pounds, and there were forty-eight anglers with more than 20 pounds.
But while no one ever doubted that Santee has monster largemouth, it still wasn't easy fishing. About 2/5 of the field had less than ten pounds, a dozen anglers didn't weight a fish, and even Hutson reported a very tentative bite.
