Week 7 Bass Tournament Round-Up

  • by Jay

Week 7 saw two open/ tournament trail events reported on SCFishingReport.com, a BFL event on Lake Murray and a South Carolina Bass Federation tournament on Lake Hartwell.

BFL Lake Murray

90 boats (each with a boater and co-angler) fished the first BFL Savannah River Division event of the 2015 season, and there were more big bags at the top as five boaters caught more than 20 pounds. Kyle Giella of Columbia finished in first place with a 25 pound, 8 ounce bag – including the big fish on the boater side at 6-12 – for a total payout of $5,964.00. The co-angler side was won Roy Beneteau of Swainsboro, Georgia who had a 13 pound, 11 ounce sack worth $1,757.00. The overall tournament big fish was on the co-angler side, a 7-13 hawg caught by Donnie Stouffer of Rock Hill. However, in tough, windy conditions 13 pounds 2 ounces was enough to cut a check on the boater side, and on the co-angler side 4 pounds even was enough for a payday. A lot of very good fishermen caught few or no fish, and overall it still appears to be feast or famine on Lake Murray.

SC Bass Federation Lake Hartwell

The South Carolina Bass Federation had its first tournament of the 2015 season this Saturday on Lake Hartwell out of Broyles, and at the top Lake Hartwell continued to give up big sacks – despite freezing temperatures early and fierce winds. On the boater side Hayes Hudson of Conway won with 24.94 pounds, while Jason Turner of Anderson finished with a more “typical” (before this winter) big Lake Hartwell bag at 17.97 pounds. Josh Anderson of Ninety Six finished in third place with 15.43 pounds. From there weights dropped to 13 pounds and below, with single digits outside of the top 9.   13 anglers caught one or zero fish.   On the co-angler side Chris Carnes of York won with three bass weighing 8.88 pounds, and only seven out of 25 co-anglers caught more than one fish.
