It’s been a very, very long time since we have brought readers a new report for the southern end of the Grand Strand, but we are very pleased to have Captain Tom Cushman of Cush’s Calmwater Charters joining us. Tom has been a fishing captain for 30 plus years, and he’s been guiding around Myrtle Beach for more than 20 years. For a while now he has been fishing mostly of Murrells Inlet. Lake Russell water levels are at 474.35 (full pool is 475.00) and the water is fairly clear. Morning surface water temperatures are back up to 67-69 degrees.

Lake Hartwell water levels are at 654.84 (full pool is 660.00) and the lake continues to clear. Morning surface water temperatures are in the upper 60s.

Santee Cooper water levels are at 74.54 in Lake Marion (full pool is 76.8) and 74.47 in Lake Moultrie (full pool is 75.5). Morning surface water temperatures are around 65-67 degrees.

Lake Greenwood water levels are 437.68 (full pool is 440.0) and the lake is relatively clear with no recent rain. Morning surface water temperatures are about 66 degrees.

Lake Murray water levels are at 355.12 (full pool is 360.00) and clarity is normal after very little rain. Morning surface water temperatures are still about 68 degrees by the dam and around 66 on the upper end.

Morning surface water temperatures around Beaufort have dropped to 63 or 64 degrees inshore and conditions are getting fairly clear.

Lake Murray water levels are at 355.42 (full pool is 360.00) and clarity is picking up again. Morning surface water temperatures are about 68 degrees by the dam and around 66 on the upper end.

Morning surface water temperatures around Edisto Island are about 70 degrees in the ocean and 67 in the creeks. Both river systems are clear.

Morning surface water temperatures have cooled down to around 71 degrees inshore in Hilton Head.

Morning surface water temperatures are around 65 degrees inshore around Charleston. Bait is still prolific in the creeks and you can easily net 50 shrimp on a throw, but the menhaden have moved on.

Lake Russell water levels are at 474.16 (full pool is 475.00) and water conditions are better as the turnover seems to be about done. Morning surface water temperatures are down to about 68 degrees.

Lake Wylie is at 96.5% of full pool and clarity is normal. Morning surface water temperatures have dropped into the mid-60s.

Clarks Hill water levels are down to 325.25 (full pool is 330.00) and as the turnover winds down the water is clear in places but foamy and bubbling in other places. Morning surface water temperatures are about 68-69 degrees on the main lake.

Santee Cooper water levels are at 74.54 in Lake Marion (full pool is 76.8) and 74.46 in Lake Moultrie (full pool is 75.5). The upper lake is now a bit dingy and even muddy in places (including Santee State Park and above). Morning surface water temperatures are around 65-66 degrees.

Lake Keowee is at 97.8% of full pool and clarity is normal. Morning surface water temperatures have now fallen into the low 70s over most of the lake.

Lake Wateree is down to 96.2% of full pool as the yearlong drawdown has begun. Around Clearwater Cove the lake is pretty clear and morning surface water temperatures are about 64 degrees.

Lake Jocassee is at 92.8% of full pool and the lake is clear. Morning surface water temperatures have dropped to about 69 degree

Morning surface water temperatures around Beaufort have gone back up to about 71 degrees inshore, and on high tides the water has been pretty clean considering the heights of the tide. On low it has been fairly dirty.

Santee Cooper water levels are at 74.66 in Lake Marion (full pool is 76.8) and 74.59 in Lake Moultrie (full pool is 75.5) and the upper lake is now a bit dingy. Morning surface water temperatures are around 69 degrees.

Morning surface water temperatures around Edisto Island are back up to 70 degrees inshore and both river systems are clear. There is still plenty of bait around with millions of shrimp in the creeks, finger mullet prolific, and the 6-8 inch mullet running down the beaches.
