Morning surface water temperatures on Lake Monticello were about 82 degrees, but afternoon temperatures on Sunday, June 14, soared to 89.5 degrees. The lake is clear, and water levels typically fluctuate frequently.

Clarks Hill water levels are still low at 324.59 (full pool is 330.00), and the lake is dingy in the backs of creeks and far up the rivers, while the main lake is clear.  Morning surface water temperatures are about 81 degrees.

Edisto

Morning surface water temperatures at the mouths of the main rivers are around 73 degrees, and back in the creeks, the water temperature is 76-78 degrees. 

Theinshore bite has not been great over the past week, and Captain Ron Davis, Jr. (843-513-0143) reports that he's hopeful fishing will improve in the next week. He believes we’re coming up on a good time for redfish based on tides and the moon phase. Anglers are catching plenty of flounder, but few are keeper-size. The trout bite is slow for this time of the year, and he believes it’s linked to the cold weather this winter.

Lake Keowee is up to 97.7 of full pool and water clarity is high on the main lake but stained in the backs of major creeks. Morning surface water temperatures are in the upper 70s to low 80s.

Morning surface water temperatures vary around 77-81 degrees at the mouth of Murrells Inlet.

Excellent flounder fishing is topping the list of inshorefishing opportunities this week, Captain Chris Regan withCarolina Hook and Fly Guide Service (843-241-7706) reports. On one trip, anglers caught multiple flounder topped by a 29-inch whopper weighing 10.1 pounds.

Lake Hartwell, May 28

Lake Hartwell water levels are low at 652.43 (full pool is 660.00), and the lake is clear. Morning surface water temperatures are about 75 degrees.

Guide Lane Clark (864-254-8614) reports that black bass are in transition from the shallow water bite around the herring spawning areas. While the herring spawn may be over, Lane said the bass are still lingering in those general areas because herring are still readily available as chow.

Clarks Hill, May 27

Clarks Hill water levels are still low and are at 323.57 (full pool is 330.00), and the lake is pretty clear.  Morning surface water temperatures are around 73-75 degrees.

Captain Rocky Fulmer with Little River Guide Service (803-646-9711) reports that the crappie action is good and has essentially transitioned from longline trolling tactics to holding on deeper brush. But recently, the trend is definitely toward more fish holding on the brush, typical of crappies this time of the year.

Lake Jocassee is at 92.7% of full pool, and water clarity is extremely high. Morning surface water temperatures are around 76 degrees.

The trout bite continues to be productive at Lake Jocassee, and Guide Casey Jones with Jocassee Charters (864-280-9056) reports not much has changed recently except the fish are slowly holding deeper as the water warms. But the bite is still excellent on fish in the 14-17 inch class.

Georgetown

May 27

Morning surface water temperature is around 80 degrees at the mouth of Winyah Bay.

Inshore fishing is very good for flounder and redfish, but windy afternoons have hampered recent fishing success, Captain Greg Holmes with Fish Skinny Charters (843-241-0594) reports.

Lake Wateree is at 98.5% of full pool, and the lower lake is clear, while the upper lake has some color (but could change quickly from all the recent rain). Morning surface water temperatures are about 76 degrees. 

Striper action at Lake Wateree is very good, reports Capt. Justin Whitesides (803-417-0070), and he's catching them throughout the lake.

Hilton Head

Morning surface water temperature is 75 degrees at the mouth of Port Royal Sound.

Fishing news continues to be exciting and fast-paced for inshore fishing, and Captain Kai Williams withAwesome Adventure Charters (843-816-7475) reports that fishing for several species is excellent, with bull reds, Spanish mackerel, and cobia all producing excellent action. He thinks the remainder of May should provide plenty of species diversity and excellent action.

Morning surface water temperatures are around 72 degrees at the mouth of Charleston Harbor. 

Inshore fishing in Charleston remains excellent, and Captain Rob Bennett withLowcountry Inshore Charters (843-367-3777) is correct that May is Cobia Month, as action on Cobia has improved tremendously. Fishing continues to be wide open for several species, with redfish, flounder, and trout all producing action.

North Myrtle Beach

May 21

Morning surface water temperatures are about 70 degrees in the ocean, and are a little 

warmer inshore, around 71 degrees at the mouth of Little River Inlet.

Inshore fishing continues to be good in the Little River area and off the beaches. Captain Buddy Love ofCaptain Smiley Fishing Charters (843-222-7532) reports that most species are on a strong bite, but the trout action has really improved in the past week.
